this used to be small apartments, so older tech but fairly well stocked. Rooms have a kitchen with fridge and stove, glassware and cutlery. TV has cable but analog only, so lo-fi. convenient location to the mall.

We stayed at the ...

We stayed at the State Plaza Hotel to see the cherry blossoms. It’s about a 20-25 minute walk to the Tidal Basin from the hotel. Very reasonable rates for two days. The deluxe king room was more spacious than I expected, with a decent sized bedroom, a lounge room with a couch, and a kitchenette large enough for a table for 2 to eat at with nearly a full size fridge. The bed in the bedroom is huge and soft. There are two separate air conditioner/heating units with their own wall controls, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom. The kitchenette is adequate, with gas burners, but is rather dim, so I wouldn’t want to do a lot of cooking there. It was enough for me to whip us up breakfasts with the supplied cookware, which consisted of a pan, pot (both with lids), spatula, sharp knife, bowls, glasses, wine glasses, cork screw, silverware and plates. I left the dishes in the sink to clean later, and housekeeping cleaned them for me, which was a rather nice surprise. Housekeeping will clean your room daily without you having to request it. The hotel is actually two buildings, both with their own lobby, and they look very similar. We accidentally walked into the wrong building one day and had to go back outside after not being able to find our way to the other building. They’re a little dated in appearance but certainly not run down by any means. There is space out front for 3 cars to stop and unload or load at the main hotel building. There are staff that will help people with their luggage. Both hotel buildings have a small staircase of about 6 steps leading up from the lobby to the first floor rooms and the elevator. I didn’t need help lifting our luggage up it, but I saw people leaving their luggage in the lobby and the staff loading it onto carts up the stairs and taking it to their rooms. Parking at the hotel is very expensive and very limited. While this is normal for DC hotels, it’s not valet, which is odd. We arrived on a Sunday and parked down the street for free, then later in a nearby garage. Rates around the area for garages are $25-35 a day as of 2025. We wanted to be able to check out of the hotel and leave our car in a garage, and explore the area until dusk. Because the hotel has such limited parking, they need every space for new guests. Check out is at noon too, which is very nice. We didn’t feel rushed. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and polite. It rained suddenly one evening, and the staff put a large basket of umbrellas out for guests to use. The CVS next door is closing, but there’s a larger one a 10 minute walk away near GWU campus in western market. The area is a rather nice area to walk around and I never felt unsafe. The bathroom is small but appealing. A couple will likely have to take turns getting ready in the morning. We had an overall pleasant experience. I’ve stayed at other DC hotels in the vicinity for five hundred a night, and a nightly stay here was a third of the price. I’d definitely stay here again.
