To celebrate the canonization of Archbishop Oscar Romero, Paulist Productions has digitally remastered and fully restored its 1989 classic film Romero, starring Raul Julia.  The film follows the heroic journey of Oscar Romero who began as a bookish cleric closely associated with the upper class, only to be transformed into a leader for all abused and persecuted people in his homeland of El Salvador.  As the tagline from the original release highlights, "He fought with the only weapon he had… the truth." Paulist Productions, a media ministry of the Paulist Fathers that seeks to advance the conversation between the sacred and the secular, wants to use the re-release of Romero not only as an opportunity to promote the story of this extraordinary saint, but to highlight the issues that Romero confronted in his life but also continue to affect us today: the power of faith, the importance of standing up for justice, the need to stand with those suffering the most in society, and the dignity of all peoples. Paulist Productions could think of no more an appropriate way to have a world premiere of the film in Los Angeles than to partner with both the parishes in the archdiocese with Salvadoran roots as well as Catholic Relief Services to celebrate the life and sainthood of the church's new saint.
