The museum is proud to collaborate with Hi-Arts, the New York-based organization which has annually produced and organized the Hip Hop Theater Festival in Washington, DC for the past 17 years.  Participate in four Hip Hop Theater Festival master classes here at the museum which kick off the festival's opening day.  Participants will learn from master teaching artists foundational skills in movement, performance, and visual art.

The following master classes will be offered at the museum:

11am - 12:30pm
MC'ing - led by Bomani Armah
Learn hip hop songwriting techniques; receive in-depth instructions on the elements of creative writing including using simile, metaphor and rhyme to structure a song.

12:45pm - 2:15pm
The Music Business - led by Koyaki Issa
Explore the ins and outs of how the music business works in 2018 including contracting and management to performance riders.

2:15pm - 3:45pm
Graffiti - led by Mas Pas
Explore and experiment with different elements of street art painting.  all materials provided.  Note:  This class involves using wet media.  So wear clothes you don't mind getting paint on.

2:30pm - 4pm
Hip Hop Overview - led by Monique Watson
Learn the techniques of being a movement artist while also being one with music.  Come prepared to move!
